 We had always dreamed of living in Southwest
Florida. We had wonderful memories of white sand beaches, deep blue waters, and warm
weather from our many vacations to the Naples/Ft. Myers area. We finally decided to
buy a canal lot with gulf access.
After several flights from the
Midwest to Naples/Ft Myers, days spent looking and driving with realtors, phone calls,
email messages, and meetings, we realized that we were merely being shown realtor
inventory and ML listings, none of which suited our needs and our price range.
We decided to focus on what we
believed to be the best area for us, researched all aspects through the Chamber of
Commerce and City Hall, and then made one last trip to Naples/Ft. Myers. While
driving around in a rental car, we found several great "For Sale By Owner"
properties. One was exactly what we were looking for.
We were a little afraid to take
an unconventional buying route, but we called the owner, who lived in California, and
learned from him how easy it would be to buy the property.
We obtained a Real Estate
Property Offer form from a local title company, worked out an offer with the owner, and
faxed it to him. After he accepted it, the title company handled all the details of
the transactions and escrow closed. We saved thousands of dollars by not paying big
real estate commissions, and were amazed by the simplicity of the process.
Throughout our search, we viewed
many wonderful "For Sale By Owner" homes, condos, and properties. We
